Obesity Medicine Fellowship Program

How to Apply

Applications are accepted from July 1 to March 31, and early submission is strongly encouraged. The program begins reviewing applications and inviting candidates for interviews immediately, and the application process will close once a fellow is selected. Applicants must be board-certified or board-eligible in Internal Medicine. The program accepts candidates on H-1B and J-1 visas, though only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible for positions funded through the T32 training grant.

Interviews

Interviews are typically held on Fridays beginning in September. Candidates attend the University-Wide Endocrinology Conference in the morning, followed by three faculty interviews. The afternoon includes a tour of the Oakland hospitals and lunch with the Endocrinology Division Chief and the Center for Clinical Obesity Medicine Director. Additional interviews may be scheduled to align with the candidate’s research interests.

Selection

The Obesity Medicine Fellowship does not participate in the Medical Specialties Matching Program (MSMP). Fellowship positions are offered when a highly qualified candidate is identified, and the application and interview season concludes once the position is filled.
