Research
The Division of Malignant Hematology and Medical Oncology drives nationally recognized basic, translational, clinical, and population-based research to advance the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer and blood disorders. With more than 300 research and clinical faculty, the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center—one of only 57 NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers—serves as a hub for groundbreaking discoveries and innovative clinical trials. Renowned Hematologic Oncologist Dr. John C. Byrd Named Director of UPMC Hillman Cancer Center
With a distinguished career advancing blood cancer research and patient care, Byrd will join the Division of Malignant Hematology and Medical Oncology and lead all cancer-related research at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh, beginning November 2025.
