About Us
The Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology provides expert care for a full spectrum of autoimmune and musculoskeletal disorders, with specialized clinics for conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, myositis, vasculitis, and scleroderma. With over fifty years of excellence, the division combines patient care, education, and research to improve diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of rheumatic diseases. Faculty lead both clinical and laboratory investigations, fostering multidisciplinary collaboration to advance therapies and train the next generation of rheumatology leaders.
Research
The Division’s research focuses on uncovering the fundamental mechanisms behind arthritis, autoimmune, and connective tissue diseases to improve diagnosis, develop effective therapies, and ultimately find cures or preventive strategies. Key strengths include studying tissue injury, disease pathogenesis, and clinical aspects of conditions such as systemic sclerosis, lupus, myositis, rheumatoid arthritis, vasculitis, and osteoarthritis. The Rheumatology Fellowship Training Program prepares future leaders in academic medicine, industry, and clinical practice through comprehensive training in diverse inpatient and outpatient settings. Patient Care
For over fifty years, the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology has delivered exceptional care for both common and rare rheumatic diseases. Faculty provide expert consultation and ongoing treatment for patients with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, myositis, vasculitis, and scleroderma, often serving as regional and national resources. Guided by American College of Rheumatology standards, the Division also leads quality improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery, workflow, and patient satisfaction.

A new U54 grant awarded to Dr. Mehret Birru Talabi will focus on advancing reproductive health for Black populations in Western Pennsylvania
Through multi-level research projects, the project will address key factors related to maternal morbidity and mortality across the reproductive span among Black populations.
