About Us
The Renal-Electrolyte Division is committed to excellence in patient care and research, and in educating the next generation of physicians in the art and science of nephrology. We are dedicated to providing care for patients within the UPMC Health System and the Veterans Administration Pittsburgh Health Care System. Our program provides an intensive clinical and research experience for physicians training in nephrology. Research training is supported by an NIH T32 training grant, and by individual grants from the NIH, VA, AHA, and NKF. The clinical program is rich and varied, including all aspects of general consultative nephrology, renal transplantation, peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis. Members of the Renal-Electrolyte Division and our colleagues within the University of Pittsburgh have developed a dynamic research program directed at studying kidney/epithelial cell structure and function in health or disease states, utilizing the tools of physiology, cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, cell signaling, genetics, and clinical epidemiology. Our Pittsburgh Center for Kidney Research is supported by an NIH P30 O’Brien Kidney Center grant.
