About

The Renal-Electrolyte Division is dedicated to excellence in patient care, research, and the education of future nephrologists. Our physicians provide comprehensive care for patients within the UPMC Health System and the Veterans Administration Pittsburgh Health Care System. The division’s fellowship program offers rigorous clinical and research training in all aspects of nephrology, including general consultative care, renal transplantation, peritoneal dialysis, and hemodialysis.

Research within the division is supported by an NIH U2C/TL1 training grant as well as individual awards from the NIH, VA, American Heart Association, and National Kidney Foundation. Investigators in the Renal-Electrolyte Division and across the University of Pittsburgh lead a dynamic research program focused on kidney and epithelial cell structure and function in health and disease. These studies integrate approaches from physiology, cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, cell signaling, genetics, and clinical epidemiology. The Pittsburgh Center for Kidney Research, supported by an NIH U54 O’Brien Kidney Center grant, serves as a central resource for advancing kidney science and fostering collaboration across disciplines.
