The Renal-Electrolyte Division offers rigorous, nationally accredited fellowship programs in nephrology and transplant nephrology, providing tailored clinical and research training to prepare physicians for impactful careers. Through the Pittsburgh Center for Training in Kidney, Urology, and Hematology (PCT-KUH), we also train predoctoral and postdoctoral scientists in biomedical research, emphasizing kidney, urology, and benign hematology. Graduates emerge equipped with advanced research, clinical, and professional skills to excel in academic medicine, industry, and leadership roles.

The Transplant Nephrology Fellowship offers immersive, hands-on training in kidney transplantation within the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute, one of the nation’s leading transplant centers. Fellows gain exceptional clinical, research, and leadership experience in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment dedicated to advancing excellence in transplant care.
Combined Nephrology Fellowship Programs
The Division’s combined nephrology fellowship programs offer innovative, dual-specialty training that bridges nephrology with critical care, pediatrics, and palliative medicine. Fellows gain comprehensive, cross-disciplinary expertise and leadership skills to advance kidney care across the full spectrum of patient needs.
Nephrology Research Training
The Division offers a robust, multidisciplinary research training environment that equips fellows with the skills, mentorship, and resources to pursue innovative careers in kidney research with support through an NIDDK U2C/TL1.
