Clinical Informatics Fellowship

Research Training

Fellowship faculty lead a wide range of research and operational projects across multiple areas of clinical informatics. Fellows participate in both short-term projects, designed to be completed during clinical rotations, and long-term projects that may span multiple rotations. Dedicated block time is provided for fellows to focus on their scholarly and thesis work.

Research opportunities include:

  • Operational and systems improvement projects within UPMC
  • Applied informatics research using real-world data
  • Collaborative studies with the Department of Biomedical Informatics and other University of Pittsburgh research groups

 

Didactic Curriculum

The foundation of the fellowship’s didactic training is the Certificate Program in Biomedical Informatics offered through the Department of Biomedical Informatics. The program includes 15 credits of coursework that can be completed seamlessly during the two-year fellowship.

  • BIOINF 2071 –Foundations of Biomedical Informatics 2 (3 credits)

  • BIOINF 2032 –Biomedical Informatics Journal Club (1 credit)

The Department of Biomedical Informatics also offers a master’s degree. Fellows interested in pursuing this degree during or after the fellowship are encouraged to discuss logistics and feasibility with the Program Director.
