About
The Division is the largest of the 11 divisions within the Department of Medicine and is recognized for its excellence in patient care, education, and research. Our faculty provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care across six clinical and teaching sites, including dedicated hospitalist and consult services. Many of our physicians are regularly named among Pittsburgh Magazine’s “Best Doctors,” reflecting our deep commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care.
We are equally dedicated to training the next generation of physicians, clinician-educators, and clinical scientists. Many of our clinician-educator faculty are members of the Academy of Master Educators, and the Division is home to the Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE)—a leader in clinical and translational science training across the Schools of the Health Sciences. In FY2018, the ICRE enrolled nearly 150 students in its degree programs and over 70 in career development and training programs.
Our research enterprise continues to grow in scope and impact, with faculty producing more than 350 peer-reviewed publications and securing over $20 million in research funding in FY2024. With more than 230 faculty members, the Division continues to drive innovation and discovery that improve health locally, nationally, and globally.
