Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program
Welcome
Here, you will find more than a fellowship. You will find mentorship, innovation, and a community dedicated to advancing discovery and improving lives.
We invite you to explore our program, connect with us, and envision your place in in the evolution of this tradition of excellence.
Who should apply?
We invite applications from individuals aiming to build careers in academic medicine and who seek a fellowship program with rigor in both the clinical and research arenas. We receive around 500 applications per year to fill a class of seven fellows per year. Our program is designed to train outstanding clinicians in both the pulmonary and critical care arenas interested in developing tangible skills in research: ranging from basic and translational science to clinical research and health services investigation, and medical education research. Our program leadership and faculty will accompany you on the journey of discovering your own career path and link you to the abundant resources available here to spark your curiosity, build your network, and develop your professional identity as a scholar in our field. While you will gain unparalleled clinical training with us here, we emphasize the research training as heavily as we do the clinical education, and thus we advise those whose goals is exclusively clinical practice to evaluate if their fellowship time should weigh research as heavily as we do here at Pitt/UPMC.
When does the training occur?
ABIM requires three years of training for board certification, and thus the UPMC ACGME-accredited PCCM fellowship runs for 36 months. A majority of our fellow graduates remain as post-doctoral scholars to continue developing skills and ongoing mentorship needed to launch their research careers effectively.
Where is the fellowship based?
See here our training sites and more about the city of Pittsburgh and western PA.
How to apply
You are welcome to apply to our UPMC Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship Program via ERAS. Our interviews are all virtual via Thalamus on select Mondays and Thursdays in September and October.
