Research Training
Faculty at the Starzl Transplantation Institute (STI) are engaged in cutting-edge research spanning the fields of transplantation, immunology, and clinical outcomes. Fellows benefit from opportunities to participate in ongoing investigations or to develop independent research projects under the mentorship of experienced faculty. These projects allow fellows to cultivate research skills while contributing to innovations that advance the field of transplant nephrology.
Ongoing research activities and resources at STI include:
- Basic Science Research: Mechanistic studies on immune rejection, tolerance, and transplant immunobiology.
- Clinical Research: Projects exploring the epidemiology of rejection, viral infections, deceased donor allocation policy, cost-effectiveness, and simulation modeling. Learn more.
- Prospective Biorepository: A comprehensive collection of biological samples from transplant recipients to support translational studies.
- Dedicated Data Infrastructure: Access to the STI Transplant Data Warehouse and expert data management personnel.
- Analytic Support: Assistance with study design, statistical analysis, and data interpretation.
- National Database Access: Availability of the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) for outcomes and epidemiologic research.
- Proven Scholarly Productivity: Fellows frequently present at the American Transplant Congress (ATC) and other national meetings, with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications.
