Patient Care
The Division of Classical Hematology is one of the largest programs of its kind in the country, offering expert care for patients with hemophilia, sickle cell disease, bleeding and clotting disorders, and other non-cancerous blood conditions. Our team is nationally recognized for its strengths in transfusion medicine, platelet disorders, and the diagnosis and management of rare hematological diseases.
The Division also leads a specialized Rare Hematological Disease Program, offering expert evaluation and coordinated care for patients with uncommon or difficult-to-diagnose blood conditions. Each case is reviewed by a multidisciplinary team, ensuring timely diagnosis, expert recommendations, and ongoing support in collaboration with referring physicians. Commonly treated conditions include porphyria, cold agglutinin disease, iron overload syndromes, mast cell disorders, and other rare coagulopathies and hemoglobinopathies. And, in partnership with the Hemophilia Center of Western Pennsylvania, our providers also offer comprehensive, lifelong care for individuals with inherited bleeding disorders, supported by a full multidisciplinary team.
Our goal is to ensure every patient receives expert care, close coordination with their local providers, and long-term support for managing complex blood disorders.
