Gastroenterology Fellowship Training Program

Clinical Training

The Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh offers a rigorous and comprehensive clinical training experience designed to prepare fellows for success in both academic medicine and advanced clinical practice. The program combines outstanding clinical exposure with individualized mentorship, allowing trainees to define and pursue specific career goals early in their fellowship.

Fellows complete 18 months of intensive clinical training followed by an additional 18 months tailored to their professional interests, whether in basic, translational, or clinical research; specialized clinical disciplines; or medical education. With guidance from program leadership, fellows work closely with expert faculty and have the opportunity to train within the Division’s nationally recognized Centers of Excellence, including those focused on liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreas and biliary disorders, motility, and gastrointestinal cancer prevention. This flexible and supportive structure equips graduates with the knowledge, technical skill, and scholarly foundation needed to excel as leaders in gastroenterology.
