The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC is nationally recognized for excellence in clinical care, research, and education. Ranked among the nation’s top programs for Gastroenterology & GI Surgery by U.S. News & World Report, the Division advances understanding and treatment of digestive diseases through innovative translational research and compassionate, patient-centered care. Faculty lead renowned programs in pancreatology, inflammatory bowel disease, GI motility disorders, hepatology, and transplant medicine.
Clinically, the Division operates comprehensive programs through the UPMC Center for Liver Care and UPMC Digestive Health Care, offering advanced care for conditions such as liver disease, pancreatic disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, and GI cancers. Faculty provide care across UPMC’s flagship hospitals, including UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, UPMC Shadyside, and UPMC Mercy, as well as regional sites throughout western Pennsylvania.
Building on Pittsburgh’s legacy as the birthplace of organ transplantation, the Division continues to drive progress in regenerative medicine and immunology in partnership with the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the Pittsburgh Liver Research Center, and the Starzl Transplant Institute, fostering a collaborative environment among scientists, physician-scientists, and clinicians. Together, the Division is committed to discovery, innovation, and training the next generation of leaders in gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition.
