Patient Care
Faculty in the Division of General Internal Medicine provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care across multiple UPMC hospitals and affiliated sites. Division members are the largest group admitting to the general medicine services at UPMC Presbyterian and Montefiore Hospitals and among the largest at UPMC Shadyside. They also provide the majority of inpatient care at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS), where patient care is delivered in close collaboration with inpatient teaching teams.
Outpatient services are offered through UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore, UPMC Shadyside (Shea Medical Center), General Internal Medicine South, the VAPHS, Turtle Creek Primary Care Center, and the Progressive Evaluation & Referral Clinic (PERC). Division faculty bring expertise in primary care, women’s health, sports medicine, and the management of complex and common medical conditions. They have earned national recognition for their leadership in the care of patients with diabetes, syncope, pneumonia, delirium, eating disorders, alcohol use disorders, and other mental health concerns within primary care settings.
The Division delivers care at four major sites, serving a diverse patient population, from the general community to Veterans through the VAPHS, and uninsured or medically indigent individuals through the Program for Health Care to Underserved Populations clinics, which provide free medical and pharmaceutical services.
