Education and Training
The Division of Classical Hematology has an established role in the education by developing an extensive core-lecture curriculum that is presented primarily during the weekly benign hematology meeting. These conferences include didactic and clinical cases discussions. Various rotations in outpatient hematology, coagulation, blood banking and transfusion medicine for residents and fellows—along with active participation of the benign hematology faculty in all aspects of medical student, resident, and fellow training— actively train the next generation of bench-to-bedside clinical researchers as well as system-based clinical hematologists.
Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program
The Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program offers comprehensive training with 18 months of clinical experience and 18 months of research, preparing fellows for dual ABIM certification in hematology and medical oncology. With diverse clinical rotations, robust research opportunities, and individualized mentorship, the program equips trainees to become leaders in academic medicine, clinical care, and research.
ASH Hematology Fellowship Training Program
As one of only nine institutions selected by the American Society of Hematology (ASH) to offer a funded hematology-focused fellowship, this three-year program provides comprehensive clinical training in malignant and non-malignant hematology, protected research time, and personalized mentorship.
ASH Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Away Elective Rotation
The ASH Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Away Elective Rotation offers fellows a one-month immersive experience in adult SCD care, including both inpatient and outpatient settings, at host institutions with large SCD populations.
Basic and Translational Research Training
The Division of Classical Hematology provides a comprehensive, NIH-supported training environment that integrates rigorous research, tailored mentorship, and multidisciplinary collaboration to prepare the next generation of leaders in hematology.
