Education and Training

The Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at UPMC offers a rich array of training opportunities that integrate exceptional clinical education with cutting-edge research. The ACGME-accredited Rheumatology Fellowship provides comprehensive training in the diagnosis and management of complex rheumatic diseases, supported by a rigorous curriculum, diverse clinical experiences, and individualized mentorship. Fellows work closely with nationally recognized faculty and gain exposure to advanced diagnostic techniques, multidisciplinary care, and innovative therapeutic approaches.

Building on this foundation, the Myositis Fellowship – one of only a few in the nation – offers specialized, non-ACGME training focused on inflammatory muscle diseases. Based in the UPMC Myositis Center, the program provides unparalleled opportunities for clinical and translational learning.

Complementing these clinical programs, fellows have access to research training through institutional and NIH-supported programs, such as the Autoimmunity and Immunopathology T32 Training Program. These initiatives provide structured mentorship, funding support, and hands-on experience in basic, translational, and clinical investigation, equipping trainees with the skills to advance discovery, lead innovative studies, and shape the future of rheumatology.
