Patient Care

The Division of Infectious Diseases provides expert, multidisciplinary care for patients with a broad spectrum of infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Through the UPMC Center for Care of Infectious Diseases, our specialists care for conditions such as HIV/AIDS, hepatitis co-infections, C. difficile, Lyme disease, bloodstream infections, and complex bone and joint infections.

Dedicated subspecialty services include transplant infectious diseases, endovascular infections, HIV prevention, anal health, travel medicine, and general ID care. The Pittsburgh Area Center for Treatment, a Ryan White Center of Excellence, delivers primary and specialty HIV care to more than 1,500 adults each year with a team approach that addresses both medical and supportive needs. And, for patients requiring intravenous antibiotics, our Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy program ensures safe, home-based treatment, reducing hospital readmissions while closely monitoring progress through collaboration between physicians, pharmacists, and visiting nurses.

Our Transplant ID program works seamlessly with organ transplant and oncology teams to manage infections in immunocompromised patients, while the Travel Health Program provides personalized preventive care and post-travel evaluation for all types of travelers, including those with complex medical needs.

Across all programs, our mission is to deliver compassionate, individualized infectious disease care that improves outcomes and enhances quality of life.
