Center for AIDS Elimination (CAE)
The Center for AIDS Elimination (CAE), based within the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Pittsburgh, serves residents of Southwestern Pennsylvania living with HIV and AIDS. The CAE provides clinical, educational, and research support aimed at prevention, treatment, and ultimately cure of HIV infection and AIDS. Through innovative laboratory approaches, translational research, patient care, and public health initiatives, the CAE is working toward improved methods of prevention and treatment, including the pursuit of a functional cure, with the ultimate goal of ending the epidemic.
The CAE’s vision is to promote excellence in basic and clinical research that informs best practices in clinical care and public health. This mission is advanced through research collaboration, training, and community partnerships. An internal grants program supports career development and collaborative studies, while clinical preceptorships, offered through the Mid-Atlantic AETC, foster excellence in patient care. The CAE also hosts seminar series with outside speakers, think tanks, and works-in-progress discussions. Collaborations with AIDS Free Pittsburgh and the Allegheny County Health Department extend the CAE’s reach into the community through education, awareness, and HIV prevention initiatives.
