Support Our Work

When it comes to clinical excellence, we strive to emphasize results, correct diagnoses and effective therapies. The greatest measures of academic excellence are the discoveries and innovations produced by an institution’s researchers and by the young investigators they train.

The Division of Cardiology encompasses a group of dedicated physicians and scientists who strive to improve patient outcomes through investigative research in molecular biology, molecular imaging techniques, clinical epidemiology and many other clinical areas. Our work is built on a strong foundation of innovative research and discovery that supports the most up-to-date practices and technologies. Our dedication to improving clinical practice and research is matched only by our emphasis on mentoring and training the next generation of cardiology specialists through our unique collaboration with our clinical partner, UPMC, and its residency and fellowship training programs.

Help the Division of Cardiology Make a Difference

We’re grateful for your interest in supporting our work at the Division of Cardiology. Philanthropy lays the foundation for what we do, and your investment can ensure continued growth and discovery for years to come. Our supporters are partners who help us to envision new possibilities and to improve treatment outcomes.

Areas of Greatest Need

These funds represent the programs most in need of philanthropic support.

Heart Innovation Fund

Researchers in the Division of Cardiology strive to discover the next big breakthrough, employing new technologies and treatments to benefit patients while continuing a strong tradition of procuring research funding from federal, industry and foundation sources. The major strengths of the research program center on translational genetics, heart failure, sudden death, molecular imaging and outcomes research. In addition, there are robust and active cardiology clinical trials that include sponsor-initiated drug trials and investigational device exemption trials.

Cardiovascular Institute Lab Research Fund

This fund supports expenses associated with faculty lab research. From salaries and equipment to the educational activities of faculty and staff members, this fund helps us recruit and retain the finest cardiovascular researchers.

Richard S. Caliguiri Endowed Chair in Amyloidosis and Heart Failure

This fund supports cutting-edge research by funding the recruitment and retention of distinguished amyloidosis investigators who will lead basic science research efforts focused on amyloidosis causes and interventions. The Caliguiri Fund was established by the family of the late Richard S. Caliguiri who served as Pittsburgh’s mayor from 1977 until 1988, when he died of amyloidosis at the age of 56.
