Research Interest
Dr. Leme’s research interests have focused on the biological processes leading to emphysema/COPD development. She has acquired expertise in evaluating lung pathobiology and predisposition to COPD in mouse models using various approaches, including exposure to cigarette smoke.

Currently, Dr. Leme is interested in the innate immunity changes that occur with advanced age and their potential role in late-onset cancer. One particular aspect she is studying using different mouse models is how changes in mouse granulocyte-monocyte progenitors (GMPs) and common myeloid progenitors (CMPs) may affect the primary tumor progression and the development of metastases in aging mice.
