We are pleased to announce that Ricardo Arbulu, MD, has been appointed to the role of Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency program at UPMC Mercy. Dr. A.J. Pinevich, Director of the Internal Medicine Residency program, recognized the role that Ricardo has played during the last year in updating and restructuring Mercy’s Internal Medicine ID curriculum. Ricardo joins Drs. Ibrahim Ghobrial, Merhshid Kiazand, and John Ward in re-energizing the UPMC Mercy training program.

Ricardo joined the ID Division in October 2018. He serves as the Education Director for the ID Division at UPMC Mercy establishing an ID continuous education program for non-internal medicine residents in podiatry, rehabilitation medicine and urology. Ricardo also serves as the Antimicrobial Stewardship Director for UPMC Mercy integrating antimicrobial stewardship learning into the internal medicine and podiatry residents’ experience by conducting “handshake stewardship” rounds and working with designated “Antimicrobial Stewardship Champions” among residents. Ricardo has implemented UPMC Mercy’s penicillin allergy clearance program (PACP) to mitigate inaccurate penicillin allergy histories for inpatients and outpatients.

Congratulations Ricardo on this new appointment. Thank you for your hard work and dedication!
