Renal-Electrolyte Fellowship Program

Diversity and Inclusion

UPMC has identified opportunities to increase the diversity of the medical school and training programs by identifying faculty in the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Pediatrics (the three largest departments) and naming Vice Chair positions in Diversity and Inclusion. These positions are held by persons committed to the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minorities along the training pipeline. This includes regional and national recruitment efforts, community programming and minority faculty development.

In addition, the Department of Medicine participates in implicit bias training and holistic review. One of its missions is to recruit the best and brightest minority candidates into the internal medicine training programs.

We continue to engage our minority faculty and administrative staff in both the application review process and the interview process. Despite a small minority faculty community, we have minorities as program directors in some of our prominent training programs across medicine and surgery and have allies and sponsors of diversity in many leadership positions. These persons are committed to ensuring diversity in programs across UPMC.
