Ian Halim, MD, PhD
Dr. Ian Halim earned his PhD in Greek & Latin Literature and his MD, both from Columbia University in New York City. He undertook his residency in psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, where he particularly enjoyed developing his skills as a psychotherapist, as well as his sleep medicine and addictions electives. In his final year, he was the co-chief resident for consultation-liaison psychiatry. Earlier, as a PhD student, his dissertation examined Aristotle’s theory for how luck and other resources outside our control impact our ability to live a full life – a topic very relevant to psychotherapy. He enjoys writing about how medicine relates to everything from ethics to botany – aiming to make science accessible to the widest possible audience. While applying to sleep fellowship, he published an essay explaining about how low oxygen impacts breathing during sleep. He’s excited to immerse himself in sleep medicine during his fellowship year. When he isn’t writing or working, he enjoys lifting weights, going to art museums, and walking.
Sulimar Morales, MD
Dr. Sulimar Morales, from Puerto Rico, graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras with a degree in General Sciences. Later she studied medicine at UMHS St. Kitts and graduated in 2015. After finishing her specialty in Internal medicine, she completed a year as a research fellow at VA Caribbean Healthcare system in the Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) fellowship program, where she was able to publish about the disparities of Lung Cancer Screening in the community-based practice in Puerto Rico. After completing research fellow, she completed her subspecialty in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System in San Juan PR, where she also had the chief fellow position. She is currently Board certified in Internal Medicine and PCCM. Dr. Morales has a particular interest in how to advance sleep medicine in the inpatient setting with the goal to be able to improve the diagnosis and outcome in these patients with sleep disorders and their comorbidities. Outside work, she enjoys exploring new places around the island, food, drawing, playing piano, and spending time with her family, friends, and her Shihtzu, Maranta.
