Matthew Camiolo, MD, PhD

Postdoctoral Scholar, Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine


Dr. Matthew Camiolo graduated from Cornell University in 2004 with a degree in Biological and Environmental Engineering and went on to Stony Brook University to receive an MD and a PhD in Genetics.  While a graduate student, Dr. Camiolo was selected as the Cold Spring Harbor Scotto Fellow and studied mechanisms of metastasis in lung cancer.  He joined the UPMC Internal Medicine residency program in the ABIM research pathway with intent to pursue fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine.  Outside of the hospital Dr. Camiolo is an avid reader with an interest in postmodern American literature.  He also enjoys spending his free time with family and friends.

Research Interests

Dr. Camiolo is currently a F32 postdoctoral scholar and has become interested in studying the relationship between epithelium and the immune system in inflammatory conditions such as severe asthma.
