We are pleased to announce the appointment of Ryan Bariola, MD, FIDSA, FACP, to the rank of
Clinical Associate Professor.

Ryan joined the Division of Infectious Diseases in 2018 as a Visiting Clinical Associate Professor and as Director of the UPMC Outreach Antimicrobial Stewardship Program. Previously, Ryan served in the role of Medical Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He has worked with hospital leadership as well as the leaders of various clinical departments in efforts to improve their appropriate use of antimicrobials. Among other initiatives, these efforts have included education, monitoring and oversight, development of best practice guidelines, and evaluation of laboratory tools for more accurate and rapid diagnosis of infections. Presently, Ryan’s efforts focus on antimicrobial stewardship and the development of antimicrobial stewardship programs in community hospitals and smaller facilities that are part of the UPMC Health System. Ryan abilities enhance the patient care and educational missions of the Infectious Diseases Division.
