J. Alex Viehman, MD, has been appointed Program Director of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program, effective July 1, 2023. Dr. Viehman was recruited to UPMC as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2015. He was appointed as Director of Medical Affairs and Quality Improvement for the UPMC Antimicrobial Management Program in 2019, a position he continues to hold. Alex is a committed and highly-rate educator and clinician.

A new Dedicated Core Faculty group will support the ID Fellowship Program, which includes Associate Program Directors Neel Shah, MD, and Bernard Macatangay, MD, as well as, Nupur Gupta, DO, Simi Padival, MD, Darren Wong, MD and Rima Abdel-Massih, MD. Ghady Haidar, MD, will continue as Program Director of the Transplant Infectious Diseases (TID) Fellowship Program.
