Continuing Medical Education in Geriatrics
The Geriatrics Division jointly sponsors a popular annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) program called Clinical Update in Geriatric Medicine. This program has been recognized with a national award from AGS and in 2015 attracted nearly 450 clinicians from 24 states and 2 foreign countries. The three-day conference held in conjunction with the International Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) CME event, which was transferred from Harvard University to the University of Pittsburgh and is co-directed by Dr. Sharon Inouye. The division also offers a separate course designed for nursing home medical directors, administrators, and nursing directors.
A number of division faculty are engaged in leading independent CME activities. Dr. Susan Greenspanteaches programs on osteoporosis that she has helped create for the American Academy of Family Medicine, International Society for Clinical Densitometry, and the National Osteoporosis Foundation. In addition, several faculty have led “Meet the Professor” sessions at national meetings of the AGS, American College of Physicians, and others.
