Clinical Elective

Four-week outpatient experience with Obesity Medicine faculty

 

While all residents in Primary Care programs should learn about the management of obesity, this elective is designed for the trainee or physician who is interested in practicing obesity medicine as part of their career, and elects to pursue board certification through the CME-track. To become an excellent provider of obesity care, it is important to have clinical experience from multiple teaching physicians who are already experts in the field. This elective can include rotating in the clinical practices of obesity medicine faculty in primary care (Internal Medicine and Family Medicine), endocrinology, and/or gastroenterology, with up to 4 half-day sessions in each field. The remainder of the time can be spent obtaining online CME and reading papers of interest that will prepare for the board certification exam.
