Fernanda Silveira, MD, MS, has received the Infectious Diseases Society of America’s Fellow designation (FIDSA). IDSA Fellows are individuals recognized for having achieved professional excellence and for providing significant service to the profession. Fernanda has achieved these goals consistently during her 15 years as a member of the IDSA. For over a decade, she has also been a member of the American Society of Transplantation (AST) and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), and was awarded a five-year appointment in the ISHLT, serving as Vice-Chair (one year), Chair (two years) and Past Chair (two additional years).

Fernanda’s primary research interests focus on treatment and outcomes of fungal infections and other opportunistic pathogens, with special attention to solid-organ transplant recipients, cytomegalovirus infections and infections with multi-drug resistant bacteria. She has been instrumental in advancing biomedical research on multi-drug resistant organisms and opportunistic infections in immunocompromised hosts.
