Award Recipients and Presenters (Left to Right): Arpana Gupta, PhD; David Levinthal, MD, PhD; Ceciel T. Rooker; William Whitehead, PhD (Chair); and Marc Benninga, MD, accepting for Ilan Koppen, MD, PhD

David Levinthal, MD, PhD received a national research award from the International Foundation for Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD) at the 2019 Digestive Disease Week (DDW) conference in San Diego, CA in May 2019.  Dr. Levinthal was one of only three young investigators to receive this annual IFFGD award, and he received this honor and monetary grant for his work as a basic/translational investigator.  Dr. Levinthal’s lab explores research on patients with cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS), including CVS disease severity and the development of novel therapeutic interventions for this patient population.

The IFFGD provides this award to promote the critical role of research to advance the understanding and patient care for GI illnesses in adults and children, especially related to basic mechanisms and clinical aspects of functional motility disorders.
