Fibrosis contributes to a wide range of chronic diseases affecting the lungs, liver, heart, kidneys, and other organs, yet effective treatments remain limited. To highlight the latest discoveries and emerging therapeutic approaches, JCI Insight has published its first-ever thematic issue and dedicated it to fibrosis.
Curated by Special Issue Editors Gavin Arteel, PhD, and Melanie Königshoff, MD, PhD, the collection brings together reviews and original research examining the cellular and molecular mechanisms that drive the onset, progression, and resolution of fibrosis across multiple organ systems. The issue also features research from numerous University of Pittsburgh investigators spanning pulmonary, liver, cardiovascular, vascular, and transplantation research, reflecting the breadth of the Department of Medicine’s expertise and its longstanding leadership in fibrosis science.
