REFLECTIONS ON YOUR TRAINING

This fellowship has been invaluable to my professional development and career trajectory as a clinician-educator. My CV at the start of my fellowship was no comparison to my CV at the end of it, and I have the fellowship to thank. The mentoring is diverse and outstanding, and the courses are engaging and readily applicable to all different types of teaching. All of my mentors from fellowship are still committed to my development as junior faculty and I continue to learn from all of them. I also gained a strong background in research methodology, which allowed me to be productive in various types of scholarly work, including survey and curriculum development. As a result, I was able to give many national presentations and workshops as a fellow, and this is true of essentially all of my co-fellows. Fellows have significant flexibility to pursue various interests throughout the two years and are invariably supported by program leadership. For anyone interested in a career in academic general medicine, I can’t say enough about the rewards of this fellowship.

WHY PITTSBURGH?

In eight years in Pittsburgh, I haven’t met a single person who doesn’t like it. The city really strikes a perfect balance. It has so much to offer (sports, culture, restaurants, outdoor activities), but unlike many other cities, it is all very affordable and accessible. There are so many great neighborhoods, and I always find new and exciting things going on around the city.
