Please join us in welcoming Cristian Apetrei, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine (Visiting) with tenure, to the Division of Infectious Diseases.

Dr. Apetrei’s research focuses on the study of HIV/SIV diversity and pathogenesis. Utilizing monkey models, he examines mechanisms of viral adaptation in new hosts and the events associated with viral emergence. Dr. Apetrei’s research is leading to a better understanding of the correlates of immune protection in HIV infection. This understanding may lead to effective alternative approaches essential in the control of the AIDS pandemic.

Dr. Apetrei and his co-investigators, Drs. Pandrea, Davenport, and Landay are internationally recognized experts in the area of HIV/SIV pathogenesis. We are very fortunate to have such expertise in the Division and we look forward to working together on productive collaborations.
