Sowmya Nanjappa, MBBS, MD, FACP, FIDSA, was recently promoted to the rank of Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, retroactive to August 1, 2020. Dr. Nanjappa trained as an Infectious Diseases (ID) Fellow at St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri from 2012-2014. She subsequently joined the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, Florida as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine in 2014. She also served as an Assistant Member of the H. Lee Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Nanjappa joined the University of Pittsburgh, Division of Infectious Diseases in the role of Clinical Assistant Professor in 2018.

Dr. Nanjappa initially joined the general and surgical ID team. Currently, she is serving as a clinician on the telemedicine infectious diseases services. Her primary research interest focuses on optimal use of antibiotics in clinical infectious disease. She has a special interest in endemic fungal infections and infections in oncologic patients.
