Winters Foundation Awards

The Samuel and Emma Winters Foundation awards five to six grants for biomedical research to investigators in the Pittsburgh area each year. These one-year awards average $10,000 and are intended to support junior faculty members, although senior investigators who are developing new research directions may also be considered. This award can be used to supplement funds available for existing research project(s) or to initiate a new research direction.

Research Associates and Fellows must have a guaranteed faculty appointment with a letter of support from their Department Chair confirming the appointment to apply.

Department of Medicine faculty have had remarkable success in receiving Winters Foundation Awards. The Department has averaged more than three awards per year for the past nine years, with every Division receiving at least one grant during that time.
