Sundaram Hariharan, MD
Medical Director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation

Sundaram Hariharan, MD, is UPMC’s medical director of kidney and pancreas transplantation. He is a tenured professor of medicine (Renal-Electrolyte Division) and surgery (Transplant Surgery) and Robert J Corry Chair of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Dr. Hariharan received his M.B.B.S. and M.D. from the University of Bombay in India. He went on to become a Diplomate of National Board in the field of nephrology in New Delhi, India. Dr. Hariharan completed his internal medicine training at the LTMM College Hospital of Bombay before completing a nephrology fellowship at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Ohio.

He was an Assistant Professor in Medicine and Nephrology at the University of Cincinnati.  Subsequently, he joined the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee as an Associate Professor in Medicine. He was promoted to Full Professor and was subsequently awarded Tenure professor of Medicine. He was the Chief of Nephrology and Interim Director of the Solid Organ Transplant Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin prior to moving to UPMC.

Puneet Sood, MD

Dr. Puneet Sood attended medical school at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and graduated in 2002. He then completed a Masters in Public Health (MPH) at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Following that, he pursued a three year residency in internal medicine at Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), Milwaukee, WI. Subsequently, he finished 2 years of Nephrology fellowship at University of Florida at Gainesville, FL . He finished a one year transplant fellowship at University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) in 2010. He then joined University of Pittsburgh in 2012 and is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Surgery at University of Pittsburgh and also serves as the Medical Director of Living Donor Kidney Program at Thomas E Starzl Transplant Institute.  Dr. Sood is board certified in medicine and nephrology. His clinical and research interests include living kidney donation, antibody mediated rejection and waitlist management.  He has been involved in multiple studies in their plan, conduct and data analysis as well as publication of the study results. Dr. Sood is also the center PI for two industry sponsored multicentric translational studies. He also collaborates with the school of pharmacy to study drug disposition after kidney transplantation and in living donors.

William Hoffman

William Hoffman, MD will be joining the University of Pittsburgh Renal Electrolyte Division and Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute as a research fellow and Clinical Instructor beginning July of 2016.  He completed his medical education at the University of Medicine and Dentistry-RWJMS (currently named Rutgers RWJ Medical School) in New Brunswick, NJ.   He subsequently completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital.  He has been at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC since 2013, completing both General Nephrology and Transplant Nephrology fellowship training.

His main interests are in translational research including characterizing memory B cell activation and its relationship to acute transplant allograft rejection.  He will be spending research time in the lab of Dr. Geetha Chalasani as well as clinical time with the transplant nephrology group at the Thomas E Starzl Transplant Institute.
