Sections of the Division of General Internal Medicine
The Section of Decision Sciences brings together faculty from the Division of General Internal Medicine and their collaborators who are devoted to medical decision making research. Medical decision making encompasses a variety of research disciplines.
The goals of the Section are to provide excellent inpatient care and to serve as educators for medical students, residents, and fellows. The section is comprised of 40 American Board of Internal Medicine-certified internists.
The Division’s Section of Palliative Care and Medical Ethics has a big presence at UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Shadyside, and Magee-Womens Hospital. This section was established to provide inpatient and outpatient palliative care.
The Program for Health Care to Underserved Populations (PHCUP) was founded in 1994 under the sponsorship of the Division and offers quality medical and pharmaceutical services at no cost.
The care of women has often been split between numerous providers, which makes it difficult to achieve comprehensive and coordinated care. Physicians in the Section of Women’s Health provide primary care for women utilizing a one-stop shopping model.
