Research Interest
1) Communication strategies, directed interventions, and epidemiology of patients with advanced CKD who opt for medical management without dialysis
2) Decision-making related to dialysis initiation
Clinical Interest
Dr. Bansal does inpatient consultation for the nephrology and palliative care services at UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore, Magee, and Shadyside. He also provides outpatient care for adult patients of all ages with chronic kidney disease. In addition to general nephrology, he has a focus on patients with CKD with the following conditions:
1) advanced age or other serious comorbidities
2) patients who may be interested in discussing aggressive management of their kidney disease without using dialysis
3) patients living with cancer who have kidney disease
4) patients with liver and kidney disease (hepatorenal syndrome)
5) polycystic kidney disease
6) ANCA associated vasculitis
Educational Interest
1) nephrology fellowship education
2) improving patient-doctor communication
3) enhancing primary palliative skills for all providers
