Clinical Services at UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore

Inpatient Services

At UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore Hospitals, the inpatient services offered by the Division of General Internal Medicine include a hospitalist inpatient resident teaching service and a consult service, both of which are overseen by our division’s faculty. The inpatient services also include a full-time hospitalist service, which is offered by the division’s faculty in the Section of Hospital Medicine. To learn more about our inpatient care, please visit the Section of Hospital Medicine.

Outpatient Services

In the General Internal Medicine–Montefiore Outpatient Clinic, the physicians are dedicated to providing high-quality, comprehensive, and compassionate services for patients seeking routine, preventive, and acute care. All of the faculty physicians are board-certified in internal medicine and are members of the teaching staff in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The residents who see patients in the clinic are under the close supervision of full-time faculty physicians. A health educator, dietitian, social worker, and pharmacist are available on site to help patients with any questions or concerns following their appointments.

Physicians at the General Internal Medicine–Montefiore Outpatient Clinic provide on-site diagnostic services and preventive health services, including blood tests and other office laboratory tests, electrocardiography, vision and hearing screenings, weight management programs, health education, and immunizations. They provide treatment for common outpatient problems, and they perform minor office procedures, such as Pap tests, skin biopsies, and joint and tissue injections. The clinic’s location in UPMC Montefiore Hospital allows patients to have convenient access to x-rays, mammography, and other diagnostic services not offered in the clinic itself.

Patients treated in the clinic also have access to a wide range of services throughout the UPMC system, including referrals for specialty consultations and follow-up care, specialized tests and procedures, and physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Choice of a Primary Care Physician—We encourage you to establish a relationship with a primary care physician (PCP) who can become acquainted with you and your needs and coordinate all aspects of your care. Once you have selected your PCP, we make every effort to ensure that any medical questions or urgent problems that you have are quickly brought to your PCP’s attention. If your PCP is not personally available to see you, another member of the group will take care of you and will update your PCP when he or she is available. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled with your own PCP.

Participation in the Women’s Health Program—For women, the clinic has a comprehensive and interdisciplinary women’s health program. Services are provided by specially trained internists with expertise in women’s health and gynecology. The clinic offers routine gynecologic exams and breast exams; menopause counseling; contraception; and management of osteoporosis, eating disorders, incontinence, chest pain, and other medical problems in women.

Use of MyUPMC to Receive Medical Information and Communicate with the Clinic—Patients at our Montefiore clinic can use MyUPMC, a secure UPMC website, to view their test results, upcoming appointments, and health reminders. They can also use it to schedule appointments, request prescription refills, and communicate via secure messages with physicians and staff.

Office Hours and Appointments—The General Internal Medicine–Montefiore Outpatient Clinic maintains office hours Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. PCP visits are by appointment only. Same-day appointments for acute issues are also available. To schedule an appointment by telephone, call us at 412-692-4888 during office hours. Our staff will make every attempt to schedule a time that best meets your needs. If you have a true medical emergency, you should go to the nearest emergency room.
