VMI/HVI RESEARCH-IN-PROGRESS | Fridays, 12:00-1:00pm | BST 1295
The VMI/HVI Research-In-Progress Confernce features two presentations given by either a fellow or junior faculty member. This conference gives provides an opportunity for fellows to improve public speaking skills, and elicit helpful questions and comments from more senior researchers, thus potentially opening up new avenues of research and opportunities for collaboration.
VMI/HVI RESEARCH CONFERENCE | Wednesdays, 12:00-1:00pm | BST S100A
The VMI/HVI Research Conference Series features presentations from Cardiology and Vascular Medicine Institute faculty, as well as visiting professors and faculty candidates, who present state-of-the-art cardiology and vascular research findings to a large, multi-disciplinary audience of fellows and faculty from across the institution.
VMI JOURNAL CLUB | Mondays, 3:30-5:00pm | BST 1295
In this meeting, VMI postdoctoral associates and fellows present recent journal articles for critical analysis and discussion. Articles must be current, and are expected to meet the highest scientific standards of study design and impact. Participants are strongly encouraged to select papers relevant to their ongoing projects or broadly related to themes in their respective laboratories.
Clinical Conferences
CARDIOLOGY GRAND ROUNDS | Tuesdays, 7:00-8:00am | BST S100A
This conference provides cardiology faculty and staff an opportunity to hear speakers from across the nation discuss current cutting edge topics that include basic science, translational, clinical and educational cardiology research.
NUCLEAR CONFERENCE | Every fourth Monday, 12:00-1:00pm
Senior fellows who are rotating through the Nuclear Cardiology Lab present hot topics and cases from the month.
M & M CONFERENCE | Every other month on Tuesday, 7:30-8:30am
Fellows present cases that stimulate quality improvement discussion, lead the department through systems and root-cause analysis.
INTERDISCIPLINARY ECHO CONFERENCE | One Tuesday per month, 4:00-5:00pm
Fellows and faculty from cardiology, cardiac anesthesiology and cardiothoracic surgery present cases from the month and discuss relevant topics/controversies.
CATH CONFERENCE | Thursdays, 5:00-6:00pm
During this conference, fellows present recent cases from the cath lab, both hemodynamic and coronary angiographic information, to facilitate both faculty and fellow discussion of clinical decision making.
ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY CONFERENCE | Fridays, 12:30-1:30pm
Fellows and faculty take turns presenting cases and current topics in the field of echocardiography.
EKG AND BOARD REVIEW CONFERENCE | Weekly, 12:00-1:00pm
Fellow-run and organized conference that reviews EKG interpretations and high yield topics for general cardiology boards.
EP CONFERENCE | Every morning, 7:30-8:30am
Various topics are covered (including recent journal articles, intracardiac ECGs, and interesting EKGs) by EP fellows and faculty.
CORE CARDIOLOGY CONFERENCE | Once or twice a week, 12:00-1:00pm
This conference consists of faculty lectures (both from within the cardiology department, as well as other collaborative departments such as vascular surgery, neurology, palliative care, etc), which cover the spectrum of cardiovascular medicine, as well as the care of patients with cardiovascular disease.
FELLOWS’ BOOT CAMP | Mid-July to late-August, 12:00-1:00pm
This series of conferences is designed to bring all new first years up to date on basic cardiology concepts and serve as review for all second and third year fellows.
LIFESTYLE MEDICINE | Twice a month, 12:00-1:00pm
This conference focuses on how to help our patients (and ourselves) lead healthier lives by discussing things like diet and exercise and the physiology of obesity.
HEART TEAM | Intermittently throughout the week, 7:00-8:00am
During this conference, revascularization management is discussed with a team of interventional cardiology faculty and fellows, cardiothoracic surgeons and fellows as well as primary cardiologists.
HVI JOURNAL CLUB | Monthly on Wednesdays, 7:30-8:30am
Second and third year fellows lead a discussion with core faculty and fellows based upon certain type of study, focusing on methodology and quality of research, as well as impact on practice.
AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CARDIOLOGY (ACC) and AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION (AHA)
These national conferences are held annually in the spring (ACC) and fall (AHA). Fellows have protected time off and coverage to attend one of these per year.
